By Far, this warranty is what makes TNPuppies aka Heather Ridge Kennels, the leader in RESPONSIBLE & ETHICAL Breeding
We stand behind our breeding program with a lifetime genetic health guarantee. If you believe your dog has developed a qualifying inherited condition, please contact us so we can review the circumstances and explain the documentation needed to evaluate your claim.
Our goal is to treat every claim fairly, understand the health of our breeding lines, and use what we learn to make informed breeding decisions. The complete coverage, requirements, and compensation terms are provided in our written guarantee and puppy contract. It is important to understand that the DNA tests for PRA CRD4 are actually testing for multiple eye issues. Meaning 2 dogs who show as carriers in PRA CRD4 may not actually carry the same issue. Therefore breeders are not expected to only breed PRA Clear dogs. While as breeders, if we have identical dogs to remove and one is PRA clear and one is not, we will remove the carrier. However, there is not a large enough gene pool to remove all carriers. And DNA companies are not reliable enough.
A fellow breeder had purchased a pup who developed blindness at the age of 1. We were notified by the buyer. We asked for the medical records from the vet. We discussed the records with my vet within 48 hours and immediately refunded the full purchase price of the pups.
We documented the information on pup's parent's records. One parent had already retired and we went ahead and retired the other.
Obviously claims must be substantiated. We don't pay based on an off-handed comment from a vet.
Owner contacted me because she had taken a dog to the vet due to limping and her vet made a comment that it could be congenital. First off, congenital means BIRTH DEFECT. It does not mean it is a genetic issue. Owner was upset that her baby was going to be in pain the rest of her life. We advised the buyer to just give the pup some time that it may have been an injury or could just be "growing pains". The owner was very upset with me stating I should pay up due to my guarantee. I informed
After not hearing from the owner, I reached out. The pup was fine. No idea what was wrong. End of story.
